Closing your account

You can close your Parivarwale account at any time, from inside the app or by writing to us. Either way it is free and takes effect straight away.

One thing to know first. Closing your account removes how you sign in. It does not remove you from your family’s tree, and it does not delete what your relatives wrote about you. The reason is below — it is the one part of this that works differently from most apps.

From the app

  1. Open You (the last button at the bottom of the screen).
  2. Scroll to Signing in and choose Close your account.
  3. Read what will happen, type your password, and confirm.

Without the app

If you no longer have the app, or cannot sign in, email support@parivarwale.com from the address your account uses, with the subject Close my account. A person reads every one. We will close it within 30 days and write back to say it is done.

We ask you to write from the account’s own address so that nobody can close somebody else’s account by guessing their email. If you have lost access to that address too, say so in the email and we will find another way to check it is you.

What is deleted

What stays, and why

Your place in the family tree. You are somebody’s child, brother, grandmother. If you were removed, every relationship that runs through you would change for everyone else — your children would lose a parent in the record, and cousins would stop being cousins. So your profile stays, goes back to being looked after by your family, and if it was visible to anyone it becomes visible to your family only.

What other people wrote about you. A memory your sister wrote about you is her writing, about her own life as much as yours. It stays hers.

What you wrote yourself. Your own stories and memories stay unless you take them off. You can do that yourself before closing your account: open one, choose Edit or remove, then Remove it. That hides it from everyone — but it is kept, so it can be put back if it was removed by mistake.

If you want what you wrote erased completely, rather than hidden, say so in the same email and we will permanently delete everything you wrote and tell you when it is done.

If you change your mind

Your profile is still there. Make a new account and ask to look after it again — your family will be asked to confirm it is you, the same way as anybody joining.

The full detail is in what we do with your information.
